FAQ
Take a look at the most ask questions about the Cerakeys keycaps here.
During the manufacturing of the Cerakeys, the keycaps are going through several glazing stages. In the final stage the legends are applied and the Cerakeys are fired one last time. After experimenting and testing, we found overglazing to be the best technique for the application of the legends. However, because the legends are on top of the other glaze, some fading might occur over time. We offer the 1-year free replacements service for any fading legends.
The color of the legends of the White & Indigo set seem to most prone to instability during the firing process in the kiln. In order to improve the process, we adjusted the temperature and duration for the V2 Cerakeys. The White & Indigo legends can have slight color variations due to the pigment used, if you are concerned about this, please consider choosing another color. If the variations between the legends are too big, the buyer must contact us within 21 days of delivery for replacements. For faster handling please include a photo and your order number.
All keycaps are designed according to standard keycap sizes, but the Ceramic shrinkage is quite hard to work with and not as stable as plastic keycaps. This might lead to slight variations in keycap sizes. We already made changes to prevent the bottom 1.25U keycaps from touching each other. If you are still experiencing any issues, we are offering replacements. For faster handling please include a photo and your order number.
For our V2 keycap stem design the embedded plastic stem is glued to the base. Due to the glue being liquid, there might be keycaps with different amounts of glue. This shouldn’t lead to any issues, however, if you are experiencing any, don’t hesitate to contact us.
Cerakeys are Cherry profile keycaps, That means that they may cause north face interference if they are being used in combination with a north facing PCB (led lights on the north side of the PCB). Therefore, it is recommended to use the Cerakeys with a south facing keyboard to prevent any issues. Our keycaps are compatible with all Cherry MX switches and MX clones. Cerakey is not responsible for any issues that are caused when the Cerakeys are used in combination with a north facing PCB.
The Cerakeys are keycaps that are glazed after manufacturing. The white edges on keycaps are naturally formed in the glazing process, due to the glaze being liquid. It flows at high temperatures, so it is easy to flow downward at the corners of the square. Therefore, variations between the thickness of the glaze can occur and white edges around the corners can vary from keycap to keycap.
Our 1U keycaps weigh between 2.9 - 4 grams, the weight of the larger keys is between 5-8.6 grams, and the spacebar is around 20 grams. For the 1U keycaps it doesn't matter which spring weights are used. For the spacebar 45 gr should be enough, but we advise >55 gr to stay on the safe side. A 70 gr switch is included in the set for the spacebar, which is a kailh box dark yellow. For tactile switches, however, there is a small remark. Because we are talking about the bottom out force, it's important for the tactile switch to check the lowest return force of the switch.
The Cerakeys are not fragile, and they shouldn’t break when they are dropped. Be careful with hard surfaces though, and don’t see the above sentence as a challenge. When enough force is used or a hard and heavy object is being dropped onto the Cerakeys, they can break. This is not included in our replacement service and is considered user damage. Also, any individual altering of the Cerakeys is the buyer’s own responsibility and will not be covered by any replacement service.
Thickness
In order to get the ‘crazed’ effect on these keycaps, the glaze needs to be thicker than any of the other colours. To protect this effect and its legends from sweat and grease, we applied a UV coating for our V2 Crazed Cerakeys. As a result, the keycaps will be a bit thicker than before and the ceramic material will feel different to the touch. This thicker glaze should not affect normal use, but if you any trouble in installing certain keycaps arises, please contact us to get replacements.
Crazed Effect
The ‘crazed’ crackling effect is achieved by a specific glaze, that is unique to every individual keycap. It means every keycap will have a different effect, this is part of the crazed set.
Own Your Ceramic Typing Style
Make any key touch flow with artful elegance and exquisite thock to defy dull typing experience by typing on ceramic keycap, a magical blend of craft and tech which works with style.
Made of alumina ceramics, each keycap offers ultra smooth and thocky typing with a range of glaze color and legend options. Each glaze achieves fabulous luster while crazed keycap has exclusive crazed effect, allowing you to create your own ceramic typing style like never before.
Unique Crazed Effect
Imperfect with 'crack', perfect with aesthetic.
As our flagship keycap, crazed keycap shines with its unique crazed effect while retaining all ceramic features, showing Chinese ceramic craft at its finest.
The crazing takes months of glazing and firing to ensure the effect does not fade away easily and over time. Essentially, it is not real crackle on the surface, but an effect on the glazed part of ceramic keycap, delicately dressing it as ice cracks on frozen lake, creating unique and fantastic stories.
Enhanced Backlit
Ceramic has greater light transmittance than any plastic, allowing more light to shine through, achieving peak and vibrant RGB illumination without compromising silky-smooth typing feel.
Indulge In Artistic Smooth Typing
The exclusive property of ceramics grants unique aesthetic appeal and silky smooth typing feel which no other keycaps could offer.
Exceptional Durability And Compatibility
We apply alumina ceramics as it has remarkable wear and impact resistance so you can type freely without worrying keys being broken or bend. The new embedded plastic stem design also ensures extensive compatibility and durability.
Long-term Durability
All the glazes are fired at 1140~1280℃ to achieve long-term durability. Even under extreme room temperature as high as 40 ℃, ceramic keycap still remains cool to the touch without compromising the smooth typing feel.
Alumina Ceramics
Alumina ceramics is an advanced ceramic material favored among manufacturers for its outstanding attributes. Its hardness ranks second after diamond and wear resistance far exceeds steel and stainless steel. When applied to keycaps, it secures a solid smooth typing experience.
The new plastic stem design significantly improves the durability and stability of ceramic keycaps, preventing itself from being broken or warped easily.
